The Challenge: Weight Inaccuracy & Fragile Material Handling in Bird Food Packaging
A leading European pet food manufacturer specializing in premium bird seed mixtures and insect protein mixes (insectenmix) needed to modernize their manual packaging workshop to meet growing retail demand:
1. Irregular & Mixed Granule Handling: Bird seeds and insect mixes consist of ingredients with varied particle sizes, bulk densities, and fragile textures. Traditional volumetric feeders caused severe weight fluctuations and crushed delicate insect ingredients.
2. High Material Giveaway: Inaccurate manual weighing led to overfilling bags to guarantee minimum net weight, resulting in costly product waste over high-volume production runs.
3. Premium Retail Packaging Requirements: The customer required automated handling of pre-formed stand-up pouches (Doypack) featuring ziplocks, Euro-punch hang holes, transparent window display, and clean hot-stamp date coding.
4. Frequent Formula Changeovers: The facility needed to switch rapidly between different seed recipes without extensive mechanical downtime or complex recalibration.

1. Z-Type Bucket Elevator (Gentle Feeding)
Transports mixed seeds and insect mixes vertically without product degradation. Smooth bucket discharge protects fragile ingredients while maintaining steady material supply to the top hopper.
2. 14-Head Multihead Combination Weigher
Calculates precise target weights in milliseconds using intelligent combination algorithms. Eliminates product giveaway (≤ ±0.5g accuracy) across irregular particle mixtures.
3. LD-8300A 8-Station Rotary Premade Pouch Machine
Automates the complete pouch cycle: Pouch Loading → Ribbon Date Coding → Zipper Opening → Material Filling → Settling → Heat Sealing → Cooling → Finished Output.
4. Hot-Stamp Ribbon Date Printer
Imprints sharp, smudge-proof batch numbers and expiration dates directly onto the pouch film prior to filling.
5. Intuitive PLC & Touchscreen HMI
Allows operators to store up to 100 recipe presets for instant product recipe changeovers.
