Discover our high-speed automatic sea salt bottle filling and capping machine solution for a Costa Rican facility. Corrosion-resistant SS316 & Teflon design for hygroscopic granules.

Automatic Sea Salt Bottle Filling and Capping Line for a Costa Rican Producer

As the demand for premium sea salt in Central America continues to surge, a leading sea salt facility in Costa Rica recognized a major market opportunity to substitute imports with localized production. To scale their output, eliminate product giveaway, and protect fragile salt crystals, they partnered with us to design a high-precision, fully automated salt packaging solution.

1. The Challenge: Corrosive, Hygroscopic Materials & High-Speed Bottling Requirements

Packaging sea salt presents severe technical hurdles that conventional machinery cannot withstand. The client’s production parameters demanded a highly specialized engineering approach:

  • Target Material: Fine and small granular sea salt. It is highly corrosive (due to chloride ions) and extremely hygroscopic, meaning it rapidly absorbs moisture, clumps, and becomes damp upon prolonged exposure to air.

  • Packaging Format: Small glass vials and square glass bottles with threaded necks and plastic screw caps (standard salt grinder bottles).

  • Filling Volume & Tolerance: 100g – 200g per bottle, requiring a strict filling accuracy within ±1% to prevent material waste.

  • Target Capacity: 30–50 bottles/min (1,800–3,000 bottles/hour) to aggressively capture expanding local market shares.

2. The Solution: Tailored Volumetric Cup Salt Packaging Line

To overcome the clumping and corrosive nature of sea salt while ensuring high-speed operation, we delivered a complete, synchronized automated packaging line configured as follows:

Rotary Bottle Unscrambler → Screw Elevator → Rotary Volumetric Cup Filling Machine (with clamshell-style gates) → Single-Head Powder/Granule Filler → Cap Elevator → 4-Wheel Capping Machine → Automatic Induction Aluminum Foil Sealing Machine → Continuous Inkjet Printer (CIJ) → Round Bottle Labeling Machine

3. Technical Highlights & Engineering Excellence

The success of this salt packaging project relies on six core engineering principles: corrosion resistance, anti-clumping, high-precision weighing, enclosed dust extraction, low-temperature filling, and strict food hygiene compliance. Key custom features include:

Core ModuleCustom Industrial Solution & SEO Benefits
SS316 & Teflon ConstructionAll contact parts are made of premium SS316 stainless steel, and metering elements are Teflon (PTFE) coated to resist chloride ion corrosion and prevent salt damp-clumping.
Volumetric Cup & Clamshell GatesReplaces linear scales to maximize mechanical speed for uniform granules, ensuring zero material leakage and zero crystal crushing.
4-Wheel Capping MachineProvides precise torque adjustment for plastic screw caps on threaded glass bottles without scratching or breakage. Equipped with a heavy-duty cap elevator for high versatility.
Electromagnetic Foil SealingHermetically seals the aluminum foil liner inside the cap, blocking moisture ingress, preventing leakage during transit, and extending product shelf life.
Automatic Coding & LabelingA small-character inkjet printer applies sharp production codes to compact bottle surfaces. The labeling machine delivers precise positioning for smooth, wrinkle-free application.

4. Realized Value & Production Line Flexibility

  • Massive Labor Savings: This fully automated machinery requires only 1 to 2 operators, significantly slashing operational costs compared to traditional manual lines that require 5 to 6 workers.

  • Capitalizing on Market Growth: Costa Rica's sea salt sector is expanding at an annual rate of 9.73%. This equipment empowers our client to substitute imports, boost localized supply chains, and secure strong ROI.

  • Broad Granular Application: Beyond sea salt, this highly adaptive bottling line is perfect for standard seasoning grinders, table salts, spices, and free-flowing powder granules. It seamlessly scales with optional downstream case packers or shrink wrappers.

5. Client Review & Market Outlook

"Costa Rica's sea salt market is expanding at an annual rate of 9.73%, yet domestic production capacity has historically been limited, leaving the market highly dependent on imports. By transitioning to this fully automated salt packaging line, we have not only exponentially boosted our daily output but also achieved unrivaled filling precision and product quality. This automation allows us to lead the domestic market transition away from imports."

This highly adaptable production line is ideal for bottling and packaging various powders and fine granules—such as those used in standard salt grinder bottles. (Note: For salt grinders with custom-shaped or integrated glass grinder caps that are incompatible with standard automatic cap-lifting feeders, we offer tailored integrations such as vibratory bowl feeders or customized manual capping stations to match your specific packaging design.)

6. Seamless Purchasing Process: From Initial Inquiry to After-Sales Service

We partner with you at every stage of your project to ensure a seamless transition to automation. Below is our transparent step-by-step workflow designed to deliver your custom packaging machinery on time and with guaranteed performance:
